History of the municipality of Inzersdorf im Kremstal

Inzersdorf im Kremstal lies between the gentle hills of the Krems Valley and the far-reaching views towards the Kalkalpen National Park - a village whose history stretches back to the Middle Ages. Here, in today's 360° Alpenland in the heart of Upper Austria, you can feel how past and present intertwine.

Originally, the area was in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria before it became part of the Duchy of Austria in the 12th century. From 1490, Inzersdorf belonged to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns - the historical forerunner of today's Upper Austria. This early integration into Austrian national history characterised the development of the village over the centuries.

Its history is closely linked to the manorial estate around Inzersdorf Castle. The origins of the estate date back to the 12th century, with ownership and significance changing several times later. For a long time, agriculture formed the economic foundation of the municipality - a structure that still characterises the landscape today. Meadows, fields and farmsteads tell of this evolved cultural landscape.

Turbulent times have also left their mark. During the Napoleonic Wars, Inzersdorf was occupied by the military several times. After the end of the monarchy, the village became part of the province of Upper Austria in 1918. Assigned to the Gau Oberdonau in 1938, Inzersdorf returned to the Republic of Austria in 1945 with the restoration of Upper Austria.

The political municipality was formed in 1850 from the cadastral communities of Mitter- and Unterinzersdorf. Since then, the village has continued to develop carefully - from a purely agricultural community to a residential community with gentle tourism. Today, around 1,900 people live here.

History is not a closed chapter in Inzersdorf. It can be seen in churches, farms and paths. In quiet landscapes that have been farmed for centuries. And in the proximity to cultural centres such as Kirchdorf an der Krems or Steyr.
