Golf and summits. Swimming lake and far-reaching views.

Edlbach is quietly situated in the Windischgarstnertal valley - between Spital am Pyhrn and Windischgarsten, on the edge of the Kalkalpen National Park. Here, the 360° Alpine landscape shows its original side: wide meadows, small farms and paths that start right on the doorstep.

The Edlbacher Moor nature reserve is a reminder of how unspoilt the landscape is here - a rare raised bog that lends the surrounding area its own unique atmosphere. The 18-hole golf courseembedded in gentle terrain, offers golfing fun for young and old. Right next to it is the Edlbach bathing lake - in summer a place for families, swimmers and anyone looking for water to balance out a day in the mountains.

Around the village, well-marked hiking trails lead through meadows and forests, to viewpoints and cosy places to stop for refreshments - with views of the peaks around Windischgarsten. In winter, the surroundings are transformed into a clear, tranquil snowy landscape, inviting you to go curling on the lake and tobogganing on the Zottensberg.

Edlbach stands for nature holidays without detours: Hiking, cycling and mindful hours in the countryside are combined with regional cuisine and a lively pub culture. Facts & Figures

History of Edlbach

Edlbach is nestled in the Windischgarstnertal valley - a place whose history has grown quietly. The name was first mentioned in a document in 1190, when a deed of gift referred to an area "where the erlibahc flows into the tanpahc". Long before political borders were established, life in the valley was characterised by rural clearances, small farms and the proximity to the important Pyhrn route.

Today's political municipality has existed since 1850 and Edlbach has remained closely linked to Windischgarsten ever since - ecclesiastically, economically and in everyday life. For generations, farming, forestry work and life according to the rhythm of the seasons characterised everyday life. The scattered settlements with their farms still tell the story of this evolved cultural landscape today. In the 20th century, new impulses were added: nature and landscape were increasingly valued as recreational areas. Step by step, Edlbach developed into a community in which agriculture and tourism coexist.

Edlbach's history is characterised by small, steady developments rather than major events. The village is closely connected to its landscape - and this connection still characterises life today. Between moor, forest and valley, history is evident here in everyday life.
