Repair Café - repairing instead of throwing away

Repairing instead of throwing away!
The great interest in the past Repair Cafés has shown that many citizens in our city are concerned not to simply dispose of broken or damaged items, but to give them a second chance.

Venue: Rieder InstallationsgesmbH,
Ing. Pesendorferstraße 23, 4540 Bad Hall

The motivation to repair used items and textiles can be very different: to avoid buying a new item for cost reasons, to save raw materials and energy resources in the production of new goods and waste for the sake of the environment, or simply because you have grown fond of your personal items and are attached to them and they are perhaps no longer available as new items in the shops. All of this can apply, for example, to a leather jacket, an old record player, pieces of furniture, toys or a tried and tested kitchen appliance, etc. No matter what your personal reason for trying to repair something, in most cases it is worth trying and only then, if nothing can be saved, to recycle it in the spirit of the circular economy.

Visitors to a Repair Café meet like-minded people, share their experiences of technical and craft problems, and all this free of charge over coffee and cake in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A small selection of books and magazines on sustainability, the circular economy and upcycling are also available.

An important aim of the event is for visitors to acquire repair skills (under the motto of helping people to help themselves when repairing) and thereby save valuable resources (raw materials and energy for production, money and their own time for buying new items, etc.) that would be wasted by buying a new item. Furthermore, repairs can reduce the environmental impact of early disposal. Rethinking the consequences of our throwaway society may also change our attitude towards the expected lifespan of everyday objects. Further arguments as to why repairing makes sense are also summarized in this repair manifesto: https: //de.ifixit.com/Manifesto

The Repair Café is organized by the Climate Alliance working group of the municipality of Bad Hall. The project was supported by the Leader Region Traunviertler Alpenvorland: http: //www.leader-alpenvorland.at.

This Repair Café is not a free repair service, but a community-organized help for self-help. If you would like to help, please contact the municipal office or a member of the Climate Alliance.
