Climbs of the Pfennigstein have been documented since the beginning of the 20th century. First field of activity of the free climbing movement in the early eighties. The difficult routes require good climbing technique in not entirely vertical terrain. The rock has been very carefully restored by Josef Gstöttenmayr, completely equipped with pitons and pulleys. The previously common dismounting to the summit cross and the subsequent abseil between the two north cracks is no longer necessary. Due to the renovation, some routes have been slightly changed and some routes have been added. **Routes** 50? Routes from 4 to 9 (15 - 35 metres) **The topos and route descriptions for the Blaslmauer at [**www.klettern-im-ennstal.at**](http://www.klettern-im-ennstal.at)** **Best time of day/year** Year-round area, often climbable in winter as well. Due to the exposed location, it quickly dries out after rain. **Rock condition** Cracks, intersections and slabs in the best limestone. In the easier routes sometimes a bit grassy. The difficult routes require good strength and technique. **Ambience** Free-standing tower, visible from afar from Losenstein, with more than 100 years of climbing history. Partly a bit alpine (does not refer to the protection). Imposing distant view from the summit. **Approach** From Hackerbauern in the direction of Schieferstein (marked and signposted). Follow the trail from the fork to the Pfennigstein wall (at the ruined high stand) straight on (do not follow the Schieferstein trail branching off to the left immediately after the high stand) to the north side of the Pfennigstein. Walking time 20 minutes from the Hackerbauer. **Distance** From Losenstein approx. 2.3 km | approx. 5 minutes walking time **Important notes** Take care at the entry band under the east and south walls. The Pfennigstein is completely unsuitable for children due to the danger of falling at the entrances. Turn left before the cemetery and then right at the next fork. In 2 km you will reach the car park (on the left) at the junction of the access road to the Hackerbauer.
