There are places to stop or replenish supplies at the Grünburger Hut (10 km), the Schoberstein House (14 km), and also at Mitterhumer's Hofstadl Heurigen near the Beistein wall close to the climbing center in Trattenbach. **Directions:** We start at the station in Ternberg and first run along the tracks to a bridge which we cross. At a wayside shrine we keep left; a signpost shows us the direction to the Herndleck and the Grünburger Hut. Along meadows we follow the Gschlösslweg until we meet the Herndleck road. We run along the road and then turn off again onto a hiking trail into the forest. The route is sufficiently well signposted. At the Herndleck parking lot we keep right and walk along the forest road for a few kilometers. Beautiful views, on clear days you can see into the Mühlviertel, accompany us along the way. Past quietly located weekend houses, we arrive at the saddle of Herndleck, called Rehböden. At kilometer 7 we turn left and run down towards Gscheid. At this intersection we go straight ahead; a signpost shows us the direction to the Grünburger Hut. After an ascent through the forest we reach Sulzboden. From here it is not far to the staffed Grünburger Hut, which is at 1101 m. The route continues; the signpost shows left towards the Schoberstein. We run slightly downhill on the forest road towards Pfaffenboden, then steeply uphill again over the Schinder, until at Mandlmais we turn left into the forest. It goes very steeply uphill; be careful, it can be very slippery when wet. At the top, we can briefly detour to the Gaisberg summit and the summit of the Lust. The short detour is worthwhile. Not far now, and we arrive at the Schoberstein House. If you have time, a stop is worthwhile, the very good food here is worth a break. Then we visit the summit cross of the Schoberstein (1285 m). The panoramic view into the Alpine foothills is breathtaking. Then it is only downhill; the strenuous ascents are done. We follow the path to the Klausriegler inn (unfortunately already closed), pass by the parking lot, and go down a narrow path until we reach the paved Kienberg road. Here there is still the possibility to refill your water supplies at the Hofstadl. Beyond the Hofstadl it continues on a narrow meadow path, past a game enclosure, until we reach the road again at the Feitelmacher, which leads us out of the Trattenbach valley. At the intersection at the info center we now turn left and run about 3 kilometers along the road, past the paragliders' landing site until we arrive back at our starting point, the station in Ternberg. **Tip:** A short detour to the summit cross on the Schoberstein is a must. **Equipment:** Equipment The required equipment always depends on the specific route and the weather conditions. Regarding provisions: This is very individual, and it is advisable to have more rather than less with you in terms of equipment and provisions. A 5km route in the valley requires less than a demanding mountain route. The weather can change quickly, and if you are not constantly moving or need to take a break, warming clothing is very important, for example. **Here is a general checklist for you:** - Weather-appropriate running clothes for the respective season – weather forecast – region – altitude. These include, among others: \\* a waterproof rain jacket \\* waterproof rain pants suitable for running \\* gloves and warm headgear (cap/headband/neck gaiter) \\* sunglasses + sunscreen + headgear for very warm days - Trail running shoes - Water bottles, soft flasks or a hydration bladder with enough liquid for the respective tour (possibly also salt tablets/magnesium) - Snacks for an energy boost in between: energy bars, gels, chocolate, trail mix, - Running backpack: ideally a trail running vest / a trail running backpack or a waist belt for small tours. - Dry pack: to keep your valuables or change of clothes dry (optional a small trash bag) - Emergency blanket - Small first aid kit. An Israeli bandage is highly recommended in my opinion: it is a one-handed operated wound and pressure bandage. Aufgrund der starken Frequentierung der benachbarten Klettersteige ist die Wand allerdings für Einsamkeitsliebhaber nicht geeignet. **Kinder** Schöner Waldspielplatz beim Wandfuß. Der Forstweg ist in Ruf- und Sichtweite und in Babyfondistanz. **Wichtige Hinweise** Über dem rechten Wandteil befinden sich die schön angelegten [Klettersteige der Beisteinmauer](https://www.klettern-im-ennstal.at/kletterziele/kletterzentrum-trattenbach/). Obwohl der Klettersteig durch kompakten Fels führt, kann es immer wieder zu Steinschlag durch Klettersteiggeher kommen. Darum ist hier ein Helm dringend zu empfehlen. Die Familie Mitterhumer, Eigentümer des Parkplatzes und Teilen des Beisteins, freuen sich auf eine Einkehr im Mostheurigen direkt am Parkplatz. ### Anreise/Parken Von Ternberg über die Enns und ins Trattenbachtal. Dieses bachaufwärts und der ersten Abzweigung nach links Richtung GH Klausriegler folgen (Ausschilderung Kletterzentrum). Zirka 900m nach der Abzweigung links auf den großen, gebührenpflichtigen Parkplatz direkt unterhalb der Wand. Zirka 4,9 km, von Ternberg / 7 Minuten Fahrzeit Kostenfreier Parkplatz bei Bahnhof Trattenbach - Wegzeit ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuß **Zustieg** Dem Parkplatz nach hinten, vorbei an der Abzweigung zu den Klettersteigen, bis zum Schranken der Forststraße folgen. Ausgehend vom Infocenter können die Besucher entlang eines Weges von 1,5 km vier Original-Messererhäuser besichtigen, davon sind drei Werkstätten und ein Objekt ist als Museum konzipiert. Man kann den Weg/Straße zu Fuß, mit den Rad oder Auto bewältigen. Einst waren hier 17 Hämmer unüberhörbar am Werk und es wurden 45 verschiedene Modelle in mühsamen Arbeitsschritten hergestellt. Heute können Sie auf 1,5 Kilometer die Zeitzeugen dieser ruhmvollen Vergangenheit entdecken und die Kraft von Feuer, Wasser, Holz und Stahl spüren, die dieses Tal geprägt haben! Erwandern Sie den Produktionsprozess von einer lebendigen Werkstätte zur nächsten und stellen Sie zum Abschluss Ihren eigenen Feitel her. Die Objekte sind teilweise mit dem Rollstuhl möglich. Hinweis: *Die* **„Trattenbacher Taschenfeitel-Erzeugung“** *wurde 2015 von der Österreichischen UNESCO-Kommission als Immaterielles Kulturerbe anerkannt.* Sie verewigten tausende Herzen in Baumrinden, schnitten den Jausenspeck auf und verzierten Haselnussstecken: Die Taschenfeitel (von „falten“) waren ein unverzichtbares Werkzeug. In Trattenbach bei Ternberg hat die Feitelproduktion jahrhundertealte Tradition. Natürlich ist es ein Highlight, wenn sich die Geäste selber einen Feitel zusammenbauen, was mit dem Eintritt möglich ist. Der Feitel selber ist nicht gratis. Jahrundert existierte, weil in der Schenkungsurkunde Otakars II. an das Stift Garsten, eine St. Veits-Kirche zu Ternberg erwähnt wird. Im Jahr 1557 wurde die Kirche zu ihrer jetzigen Höhe ausgebaut. Der Turm stammt aus dem Jahr 1752. Der Hochaltar ist von 1688 vom Bildhauer Marian Rittinger. Die Innenrenovierung der Kirche wurde gestaltet vom Künstler Leo Zogmayer. Im Jahr 2009, zum 700 Jahr Jubiläum, ist die neu renovierte Kirche von Bischof Aichern geweiht worden. Jumpline ist 170 Meter lang und kann mit Mountainbikes und BMX-Rädern, aber auch Scootern, Rollerskates und Skateboards erlebt werden. Zusätzlich dazu gibt es einen 45 Meter langen Laufrad- und Rollschuhtrack, damit ist garantiert, dass am Pumptrack Ternberg alle ihre sportlichen Leistungen und erproben und ganz nebenbei auch Fahrtechnik und Sicherheit trainieren können! Direkt angrenzend an den Pumptrack befindet sich das Freibad Ternberg mit dem Beachvolleyballplatz - eine ideale Möglichkeit, Hunger oder Durst nach dem Fahren zu stillen und eine Abkühlung zu genießen. Entstanden ist das Projekt aus der Fahrradberatung des Landes OÖ, die zum Ziel hat, die Freude am Radfahren in Ternberg zu fördern. Liebe Bergfreunde, Wanderer und Naturliebhaber! Die Sulzbodenhütte wurde im Jahr 1962 als Unterkunft für die Jugend und die Jungmannschaft vom Alpenverein Steyr angekauft. Zwischenzeitlich trug sie aufgrund des dort hausenden Siebenschläfers (ein putziges Kerlchen aus der Familie der Bilche, mittlerweile wieder ausgezogen) auch den Namen "Maushütte". Die Sulzbodenhütte ist eine Selbstversorgerhütte und liegt unterhalb des Hochbuchbergs inmitten den Oberösterreichischen Voralpenlandes auf 1.111m Seehöhe. Sie ist ganzjährig buchbar. Die Sulzbodenhütte hat weder Anschluss an eine Straße noch Anschluss an Wasser, Abwasser und Strom. Zustieg ist nur zu Fuß möglich. Das Toilettenhäusel befindet sich außerhalb der Hütte. Hüttenschlafsäcke sind selbst mitzubringen. Neben den Zugangswegen von den Bahnhöfen in Ternberg (Weg Nr. 04 / E4) und Grünburg (Weg Nr. 09 / E9) kann die Gehzeit durch Anfahrt mit dem Auto ins hintere Trattenbachtal verkürzt werden (Zustieg über Jhtt. Vom Ende der Leiter steigt man gleich linkshaltend schräg auf der Platte höher (C). Man erreicht eine Klammerreihe (B) die zum Notausstieg führt. Gerade hinauf (C) über Platten und kleine Stufen (C) zu leichtem Gelände (B und B/C). Ein leichtes Band (A) führt nach links und man gelangt über die Schlusswand (C) zum Ausstieg. **Schwierigkeit:** Einige Stellen C, kurz vor dem Ausstieg auch leichter. **Kinderfreundlich:** Nein **Versicherungen:** Gut mit Stahlseil und Trittklammern gesichert. **Ausrüstung:** Komplette Klettersteigausrüstung und Helm **Ausgangspunkt:** Parkplatz unterhalb der Beisteinmauer **Zustieg zur Wand:** Vom Parkplatz den Forstweg etwas aufwärts, dann links zum Übungsklettersteig bzw. zum Feitel-Klettersteig. **Ausgangspunkt Höhe:** 470 m **Höhe Einstieg:** 500 m **Abstieg:** Vom Gipfel kurz östlich auf dem Grat absteigen, dann rechts auf dem Abstiegssteig hinunter zum Forstweg und zurück zum Parkplatz. Use an onboard computer that displays the respective kilometres travelled per day and is calibrated for the front wheel. 4.Special for mountain bikers – Fair-play rules: Mountain biking is one of the most wonderful outdoor leisure-time activities. Whilst biking or on a mountain biking tour, mountains and lakes, meadows and cabins are re-discovered in new ways. A couple of rules for fair play in the forest help to avoid conflicts whilst mountain biking. a.Pedestrians have the right of way: We are accommodating and friendly to pedestrians and hikers. Upon encountering these fellow travellers, we alert them by using the bicycle bell and slowly overtake them. We avoid paths with heavy pedestrian traffic altogether. Take nature into account: We do not leave refuse behind. b.The braking distance should be half of the total distance visible: We ride at a controlled pace, are ready to brake and maintain a braking distance half as long as the total distance visible, especially in curves, because we always have to count on obstacles on the path. Damage to the path, stones, branches, wood piles, grazing livestock, cattle grids, barriers, tractor-type forestry machines and authorised vehicles pose dangers that we need to be ready for. c.Don’t drink and drive!: Do not drink alcohol when mountain biking. Take care at stop-off points (dealing with bike racks, dirty shoes or clothing). It is obligatory to provide first aid! d.Marked routes, closed paths and blockades: Keep to the marked routes, observe the blockades and accept that these roads are primarily for agricultural and forestry use! Blockades can often not be avoided and are in your own interest. Biking beyond the intended path and outside of opening times is punishable and turns us into illegal bikers. e.We are guests in the forest and behave accordingly, including vis-à-vis forestry and hunting staff. Whilst mountain biking, mobile telephones and music players are forbidden! Biking requires your full attention. f.Avoid unnecessary noise. Out of consideration to the animals living in the wild, we only bike during full daylight. As a principle, we always wear our helmet (even when riding uphill)! Don’t forget emergency supplies: We always have a repair set and bandages along. g.Don’t overestimate your skills: We should not overdo it when it comes to biking technique and physical fitness. Take the level of difficulty posed by the route into consideration and make a precise estimate of your experience and skills as a biker (braking, bell, lights)! h.Close gates: We approach grazing livestock at a walking pace and close every gate behind us. We should avoid causing escape and panic reactions in the animals. Nothing stands in the way of the fun and athletic challenge in the mountains and forests! i.Traffic rules: The general traffic rules (StVO) apply for all the mountain biking routes and we adhere to them. Our bike therefore needs to be in perfect technical condition and equipped in line with the traffic rules, including brakes, a bell and lights.
