Its healing water is directed straight to the health center and is considered one of the highest quality iodine-salt springs in Central Europe. The neoclassical spring house has a long history: Already used in prehistoric times and known as a salt source since the era of the Illyrians, it was gifted by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria to the Kremsmünster Monastery in 777. Originally used for salt extraction as well as for relieving skin ailments and goiter diseases, Matthias Steppich and Alois Urlaub recognized the medical potential of the spring as of 1827. We owe the present spring temple to the Viennese merchant Maria Selig, who had it erected in 1841 out of gratitude for the healing of her daughter. The discovery of Roman coins from the time of Emperor Antoninus Pius confirms that the site already held significance in antiquity. In 2023, the spring temple was restored and is currently available for extraordinary events.
