In 1924, the hall was converted into a public cinema and concert hall with 900 seats. The hall and vestibule were renovated in 1959 according to the plans of the architect Pfiffl. In 1955, a cinemascope screen was installed. In 1957/58, the old Stadttheater in the Berggasse - by then inaccessible and outdated, was demolished and a modern stage wing was erected in its place next to the industrial hall. The house, designed by Karl Tobisch-Labotyn, was fitted with Upper Austria’s most modern stage technology of the time. The revolving stage has a diameter of 11 metres. The new theatre was opened in September 1958 with Puccini’s opera “La Boheme” presented by the Linz Landestheater.
