Ski tracks and signs of the times. Hinterstoder in the south of 360° Alpenland in Upper Austria is more than just a mountain village at the foot of the Großer Priel. The history of the municipality dates back to the 12th century; the name "Stoder" first appears around 1240 and refers to the stony, cool soil of this alpine landscape de.wikipedia.org. Farming structures, forestry and hunting gradually developed into an independent community. With the expansion of the road into the Stodertal valley and the connection to the Pyhrn railway at the beginning of the 20th century, Hinterstoder became accessible - and thus open to guests hinterstoder.ooe.gv.at. Skiing began here in 1910 and the first prize skiing competition took place in 1912. What began as a winter sports craze for a few people had a lasting impact on the community's identity. In 1959, a cable car brought the Höß area closer, followed by the first Ski World Cup race in 1986 - a milestone for tourism in Hinterstoder. At the same time, the connection to nature remained a defining feature.
