Canyoning & gorge tours
---------------------------

### Adventures in the water gorges

In Upper Austria, real adventures begin where the water carves its way through the rocks. When canyoning, experienced guides lead you through narrow gorges, over smoothly polished rocks and past rushing waterfalls. You abseil, glide down natural slides, jump into emerald-green pools and swim through cool mountain water - step by step from top to bottom, always accompanied by the sound of the water.

Canyoning means exploring a water-bearing gorge to its full depth - mindful, focussed and in the rhythm of nature.

Experienced guides teach the safe use of ropes, carabiners and abseiling equipment and provide in-depth instruction. This turns the interplay of rock and water into an intense nature experience.

Things to know about canyoning in 360° Alpenland:
-------------------------------------------------

  [ What is canyoning? ](#ttgNCECollapse457224)
------------------------------------------------

Canyoning means travelling through a water-bearing gorge from top to bottom - by abseiling, sliding, climbing, jumping and swimming. You always follow the natural course of the water.

[ How does canyoning differ from rafting? ](#ttgNCECollapse459015)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

While rafting takes you down a river in a team in a rubber dinghy, canyoning takes you directly into the gorge - on foot, on a rope and in the water. In 360° Alpenland, both sports complement each other: here the narrow gorge, there the wide river landscape of the Enns or Steyr.

[ Is canyoning very strenuous? ](#ttgNCECollapse459024)
----------------------------------------------------------

A good basic level of fitness is helpful, as canyoning requires legs, arms and concentration. You climb over wet rock, hold on to the rope and swim through pools. At 360° Alpenland, the tours are organised in such a way that regular breaks are possible - and the pace is adapted to the group.

[ Does canyoning take place in all weathers? ](#ttgNCECollapse459033)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heavy rain can quickly change water levels. For this reason, canyoning tours in 360° Alpenland are postponed or cancelled in the event of unfavourable weather conditions. The decision is made by the guides on site - based on forecasts, water levels and experience in the respective valley.

[ Do I need previous knowledge for abseiling? ](#ttgNCECollapse459047)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Previous experience is not required for beginner tours. Before setting off, the guides at 360° Alpenland will show you how to use the rope and abseiling equipment. You will gain confidence on short practice sections before heading over higher rock steps into the water.

[ When is the best time for canyoning in Upper Austria? ](#ttgNCECollapse459049)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The canyoning season in 360° Alpenland generally runs from May to September. When the snowmelt subsides and the water levels are stable, the gorges show their accessible side. Especially on warm summer days, jumping into the mountain water is a welcome refreshment.
